We Should Still Be Swinging From The Trees.

Evolution had not been kind with human’s physical bodies.

Do you have back problems?

Chances are, it’s evolution.

We need to deal with how evolution has screwed with us early.

It’s the other half of why we age.

One is entropy.

The other is evolution.

.How?

When we first came down from the trees we started walking upright.

It saved energy.

Everything was suddenly easier.

Huge energy saver.

But our bodies didn’t adapt soon enough to deal with this massive change.

Here’s the crunch.

They still haven’t.

Why are we all walking upright now?

Seven million years after we came down from the trees and started walking upright?

Recent studies have also suggested that, rather than taking millions of years to evolve from a hunched position as is commonly believed, our early ancestors were already capable of standing and walking upright the moment they descended from the trees.” (Live Science)

Instantly.

So have we all been walking upright prematurely?

To save energy.

Not so much as an evolutionary advance at all.

Is this the only reason, then, we are not all falling over in the street and returning to the trees?

Just so we can save energy?

But now we have supermarkets to save us energy.

So are we walking, and running, and jumping, ahead of time?

Seven million years ahead?

I know.

I have a spinal stenosis.

Messages don’t get through from my brain to my legs telling them how to walk.

After assuming that walking doesn’t come easy because, in spite of having excellent leg strength, I keep falling over, what’s happening?

Why can’t I walk?

Why must I focus on the placement of every step, one at a time, when I see others walking with ease without falling over?

I’m wondering whether it has anything to do with the evolution of humans coming out of the trees and walking upright?

Seems like, in evolutionary terms, it was instant.

Why?

Survival it seems.

To save energy.

Not any physical modification of the human/ape body to meet an evolutionary advance?

So are we stuck with a creature who has made a very physical move before its time?.

Is our body still meant to swing from the trees?

Have we beat the gun and advanced, in evolution terms, before we’re ready?

Is that why our bodies are so screwed?

So many of us with back and spinal problems?

And what physical modification has occurred in those intervening 7 million years since we came down out of the trees?

The placement of the scull on the top of the spine to cope with the upright stature.

Otherwise, I can’t find anything major.

So my immediate thoughts are

Is ageing caused by evolution?

Evolution and entropy?

Love and peace.

PS. My new book ‘Romancing Your Life. Changing The World.’

The Old Caravan In The Bush.

That was my home for 5 years.

The blue tarp was to stop the roof from leaking.

A metaphor for my life.

Like a reset.

The old caravan was like a womb and the Wombat Forest was the rest of the world.

What if I could start again.

The typical Mid-Life Crisis.

Is this the chance we all have to reset, to start again?

In the midst of what we already have?

We’ve tested the waters of our chosen career.

Maybe we’ve proved we can do it.

Or not.

Our soul is crying out to be heard.

What are we here for?

What is our true destiny?

Do you have a destiny wanting to speak?

Your caravan in the bush?

I had no choice.

My one-man freelance business went bankrupt.

I lost everything.

I had no choice but to start again.

I had to let go.

There’s a wisdom saying, Buddhist I think . . .

What you let go of, which is truly yours, shall be returned to you tenfold.

It was true for me.

I had to let go.

The Universe is there to support you.

It did me.

May the Force be with you.

I had untold adventures.

Other countries to visit.

Books to write.

Of my stories.

They’re all here.

Your destiny awaits.

Your story.

Waiting to be told.

You’ll need to have it first.

Starting from where you are,

Start and everything else will follow.

It’s my secret.

Love and peace.

What Happened in the Caravan?

The caravan was my home for five years.

Lots happened.

I became one of the spa resort community of Hepburn Springs.

A new me emerged.

Maybe that was the real me.

I think so.

I shook off the advertising world I’d left behind in a hurry.

I’d just been declared bankrupt.

It’s all there in my book.

I opened myself up to new people.

To interesting new people.

New experiences.

Maybe it’s what we should all do at some time.

Is this called ‘mid life crisis’?

Wrote articles for the local paper.

Researched the story of the Swiss and Italian miners who came to Australia in the Gold Rush days of the 1850s.

Then I wrote the article.

It’s an amazing true unknown story.

They started a new Italy in the Australian bush.

My article was published in three parts.

Today it’s Chapter 8, ‘Italy in the Aussie Bush’, of my book ‘The Great Regency Cover-Uphere.

The owner of the General Store picked it up and started the ‘Swiss-Italian Festa’.

Here’s their interesting website.

There was more. that happened in the caravan over those spectacular five years of rebirth for me.

Maybe a real mind/body/spirit rebirth.

I share everything with you.

Love and peace.

Had The Adventure. Didn’t Need The Kombi.

I had the adventure.

I didn’t know what hit me.

I was gobsmacked, alone, boke, with not even a Kombi to save me.

I didn’t need it anyhow.

Because, somehow, I had the adventure.

After I went bankrupt.

I’ve written the book to tell you everything that happened.

History.

Romance.

A mystery.

And the paranormal that seemed to have my back as I ventured fourth..

Having lost everything.

Like I was being taken care of because what knew had to be told.

So here’s the thing.

I had uncovered an historical mystery.

A very true story where some lovely people were hurt.

Lovely people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In Regency times.

The late 1700s in Georgian England.

The time when the King was going mad.

When those on or near the throne of England feared for their safety.

Even from losing their head.

This is the hidden story.

Because of what they knew and where they were sitting in or close to Royal circles.

There was strong anti-Catholic sentiment.

The Gordon riots.

Evidence of a secret marriage burned.

And more.

I know all this.

I’ve told it as I uncovered the hidden facts and the trail of where it might have been.

All of this as I struggled with bankruptcy and losing everything.

I encountered twists and turns in every moment.

And paranormal clues that followed my trip everywhere.

Across five countries.

Retracing their steps as I went.

Encountering romantic stopovers.

Meeting interesting people.

Having the adventure of my life.

May I share it with you.

At every stop I take you with me as the adventure unfolds.

I want it to be your adventure too.

Your Mind Knows Who You Are

Have you ever asked your mind who you are?

Do you ever ask it for advice?

A winner of a creative business award was asked what was her secret of success.

“I just trust my beeps,” she said.

Trust her beeps.

Why don’t you try trusting your beeps.

They’re the code to get you out of a rut..

The vibes.

The intuition.

Your mind is energy.

You can tap into that energy, the waves, the vibrations, that you are searching for outside yourself,

Your mind has your interests at heart.

Maybe your mind holds the clues to your Destiny.

Ask it who you are.

With thought.

Because your mind, your Destiny, knows who you were meant to be.

You chose it.

Your mind.

It can’t be measured, weighed, seen, evaluated or removed.

It’s what leaves us at the time our physical body gives up the ghost and ceases to be a living creature.

It’s our mind that our body “gives up”.

What Can We Do, You & Me, About the World?

What can one person do, alone, to change the world?

Even just a little bit.

I hear people saying just this.

What can we do?

What can I do?

I’m just one person.

I’m nobody.

What can I do?

Well, I’ve thought that too.

Until I wrote this small book

. It’s about what I can do.

Which is nothing.

Nothing compared to people who are famous, are influencers, are in a position to make a difference.

But then, I’ve written a book.

It’s all I can do.

But here’s the thing.

I know what we can do, as individuals, as ordinary people, without a voice.

Except our own.

So I want to invite you to read the book.

You can without making a fuss.

The Mystery of the ‘Mary Ann’.

The ‘Mary Ann’ was an all-female convict ship which had sailed to New South Wales (Australia had not been named yet) as part of the Third Fleet in 1791 “under strange circumstances.”

Strange circumstances?

Although officially one of the Third Fleet the ‘Mary Ann’ sailed independently of the rest of the fleet, leaving England forty days before the first of the other ships. The remaining nine vessels were mostly in a bad state of repair, “mostly old, and the Navy Board’s officers were less than vigilant than usual or had no alternative but to accept vessels that were in poor repair and ill-found.” 1

Under the command of her part-owner, Mark Monroe, the 298 ton vessel sailed from England on the 16 February, 1791, arriving in Port Jackson on 9 July. This was the fastest voyage yet made by any ship of the three fleets. Bateson reports a cargo of 150 female convicts but the records of ‘Shipping Arrivals & Departures, Sydney, 1788-1825′2show this to be incorrect. The ‘Mary Ann’ (officially) carried 141 female convicts, six children and one free woman. Six children and one free woman? She was the only ship in the fleet to carry exclusively female, and no male, convicts.

Read the full expose in my true paranormal mind/body/spirit adventure here.

There were a number of indications of a hasty departure. As reported by Collins, the Master of the ship “had not any private papers on board (but what added to the disappointments everyone experienced), he had not brought a single newspaper, and having been but a few weeks from Greenland before sailing for this country, he was destitute of any kind of information.” 3

Even more intriguing was an incident reported by Charles Bateson. After a grueling 143 days at sea “possibly because she called at only one port en route to refresh her prisoners with fresh provisions” a very strange thing happened.

“The Master landed a boat in a bay on the coast about 15 miles to the southward of Botany Bay; but no other observation of any consequence to the colony, than that it was a bay in which a boat may land.” 4

Notice it was the Master who landed the boat according to Bateson.

Puzzled by this I wrote to my genealogist in England asking for information about the ‘Mary Ann’.

“There seem to be no ships musters for the ‘Mary Ann’,” he wrote back. “Looked next the embarkations returns for 1791 but there was no mention of the ‘Mary Ann’ … I looked at the Home Office lists for the ‘Mary Ann’ but these give only the list of convicts, so there is something wrong with your data.”

I found the list of female convicts on the ‘Mary Ann’ but none for the free women and child.

So what have we got?

The Master of the ‘Mary Ann’, a female convict ship carrying six children and one free woman, lands a boat on the coast away from the main settlement about fifteen miles from their port of destination, for no apparent reason, even though there must have been many on board who were ill and in need of fresh food and water having stopped only once on the journey. Her departure does not seem to have been recorded in England. No ships musters could be found. She leaves hastily “under strange circumstances” without the usual papers, sailing over a month in advance of the other ships in the fleet and making the trip in record time. The captain also happens to be the part-owner.

Was something fishy going on here?

But that’s not all.

Bateson offers another interesting observation. “Of the ten sail of transports [the Third Fleet] lately arrived, five, after delivering their cargo, were to proceed on the southern whaling fisheries – the ‘Mary Ann’, ‘Matilda’, ‘William and Mary’, ‘Salamanda’ and ‘Brittania’. Two of the whalers, ‘Matilda’ and ‘Mary Ann’, came in from the sea the day on which the others arrived. The former found a boat in a bay on the coast six miles to the southward of Port Stephens …” 5

Port Stephens is some 200 miles to the north of Botany Bay.

Was there some kind of cover-up going on?

I know what was going on and it was a cover-up to save the Prince of Wales’ Skin.

Or maybe his neck.

I wrote the book to answer this and other big questions.

Are Our Kids Being Brainwashed?

Brainwashing techniques have been documented as far back as the Egyptian Book of the Dead and used by abusive spouses and parents, self-proclaimed psychics, cult leaders, secret societies, revolutionaries, and dictators to bring others under their thumbs and manipulate them seemingly willingly.” (wikihow)

I hear stories of teenagers being kicked out of home, sent to mental institutions and made homeless living on the streets.

And I have to wonder, is it because of their chosen behaviour which doesn’t meet the rules of the parents, or behaviour caused by brainwashing, that is, repeated abusive and negative expectations of parents or partners?

And why do I keep hearing, oh that’s teenagers for you, tut, tut?

Is so-called typical teenage behaviour largely the product of constant psychological verbal abuse?

So how much are drugs, depression and suicides caused by the same constant verbal abuse?

It’s a tragedy.

I’m appalled.

Wake up to the damage you’re doing to our kids.

This is not discipline, it’s mentally damaging and life changing.

Life destroying.

Unfairly judgemental.

These are young souls, maybe old souls, who are coming to terms with their own destiny, which lies before them.

Let them be free to explore their own destinies.

Not yours.

The world is changing fast.

They deserve to have a chance to face the new world in their own ways.

Instead of yours.

Please, let’s save our kids, our vulnerable teenagers, from long-term psychological damage.

We need to honour and respect these new souls.

Our children will inherit the Earth.

Love and peace.

Urban Nomad: The Life of Author Neil the Smith

Why ‘the Smith’?

They were the creators, the crafters, the metal smiths, the makers of Medieval Britain a thousand years ago.

Today, I’m ‘the wordsmith’.

The author.

I’ve lived everywhere..

Over 50 places have been my home.

An ancient aboriginal corroboree ground in a wilderness area known as Fairy Hills where the creek met the river was my first memory of life.

And only a few kilometres from the Melbourne CBD.

I’ve just learned they’ve been digging up ancient aboriginal artifacts that suggest this.

I’ve lived with psychics and healers.

And sat with mediums or channels.

I’ve lived with a Reiki Master in New York.

With a Roman Catholic nurse in the north of Italy.

With a Buddhist in the UK.

My lawyer was an Atheist.

I didn’t live with him.

I ran my own freelance copywriting business. in the ’70s

In 1972 I won an award for the best television campaign of the year for a brand of meat pies and donuts.

I was a New Age hippie.

We knew about climate change 50 years ago.

A group of us started a commune on 40 acres north of Melbourne to become self-sufficient and live off the grid.

A year later we’d failed.

I helped launch Animal Liberation here.

Our patron was Peter Singer, who was then Professor of Bioethics at Harvard., and wrote the book ‘Animal Liberation’.

45 years later it’s still active today.

I was the first member of the Permaculture Association.

Which, started by two Tasmanian academics in the late ’70s, today is changing the world

Now there are over one million people certified in Permaculture in over 140 countries with more than 4,000 projects on the ground.

I went bankrupt.

An article I researched and wrote 35 years ago – about the Swiss and Italian gold miners who came to Australia in the 1850s – triggered the launch of a Swiss-Italian Festa which is still running every year today in a local spa resort town.

Their story is in my book here.

I ran a social group called ‘The Springs Whole Health Group’.

We never ran out of guest speakers on healing topics, from ley lines to chemical sensitivity, who I’d enjoy interviewing every month before our next meeting.

Then I would write an article for the local paper which they always published on page 3 or 5.

This while living frugally in an old caravan parked at the end of a street in the spa resort town.

Over 5 years I became known as the man in the van.

I studied many spiritual philosophies.

I studied Religious Experience as an off campus mature age student at Uni –

The Christian Mystics

The Hindu Bhagavad-Gita.

Australian Aboriginal Dreaning.

I practiced Yoga for 50 years from wherever I called home.

Briefly I joined the Theosophical Society in Melbourne, with headquarters in Adyar, India, with the motto ‘There is no religion higher than Truth’.

I met and befriended the Librarian of the Melbourne branch, a Wise Woman, who taught me how and where and why to search for Truth.

What is Truth?

For a time I was married and today have the pleasure of a beautiful family of 2 lovely daughters, 3 adorable granddaughters and 2 mischievous great grandsons.

I’m truly blessed

A long time ago a chance meeting with a Librarian, a Wise Woman, who became a close friend opened a door that I found I couldn’t resist.

Was there more to life than meets the eye?

So began my own lifelong search for Truth.

So what is Truth?

I define Truth, capital T, as everything that is unchanging, eternal, permanent, Nature affirming.

I tell the story of my meeting with the Librarian in the first chapter of my small book How Can We Change The World Ethically, Sustainably & Quietly. Ourselves.’

The other 17 chapters tell of unusual personal experiences that followed that reveal my quest to find it.

As if I had opened the door to the answers I was seeking.

Although I didn’t know it.

A second evolution.

Parallel lives.

The secret of Destiny.

What our soul can tell us.

Make Waves With Your Thoughts

Thoughts make waves.

Brain waves.

They are generally created when you’re not thinking what you’re thinking.

Which I’m sure is much of the time.

Watching television

Watching a movie.

Playing computer games.

Even chatting.

Something is happening all the time while you’re involved in any mental activity.

Your thoughts are creating waves.

You’re making waves.

Without thinking.

So do your thoughts have consequences.

Do your thoughts get picked up?

Even acted upon?

Just a thought.

Are they creating a world that’s unintentional?

Your innocent thoughts?

“With our thoughts we make the world,” said the Buddha.

Your world?

The world we all live in?

Then are brain waves real?

.Do we ever think about the world we want to have or do we think about what entertains us?

Isn’t the world we have right now pretty much the kind of world we watch for entertainment?

The dramas.

The violent movies.

The war games.

The evening news.

What we chat about.

“Your brain is a bustling hub of electrical activity. This is due to the fact that the cells in your brain, called neurons, use electricity to communicate with each other.

‘”When a group of neurons sends an electrical signal to another group of neurons, we call those brain waves. This is because a computer-generated electroencephalogram (EEG) test that detects and measures the electrical activity in your brain actually creates a picture that looks like a wavelike pattern.

“There are five basic types of brain waves that range from very slow to very fast. Alpha waves fall in the middle of that series of waves. Your brain produces these waves when you’re awake but not really concentrating on any one thing.”

Healthline

Think about it.

What if we’re all helping to create the world with our thoughts.

Our brain waves.

A world we don’t want.

Love and Peace.

How Hard Is It To Change The World For The Better?

We could do it just by thinking.

There’s nothing to do: except thinking.

Eric Clapton sang about it.

Okay, he was singing about a woman.

Or maybe not.

But you and I can do it by thinking.

“With our thoughts we make the world,” said the Buddha.

So much of his thought had a similar message.

What we think is what we get.

The trouble is, do we think about the world we want to have or do we think about what entertains us?

Isn’t the world we have right now pretty much the kind of world we watch for entertainment?

The dramas.

The violent movies.

The war games.

The evening news.

What we chat about.

There are ethical views out there than can bring into reality the kind of world we want.

If we want peace, for example, how peaceful are our thoughts?

“Thoughts are things,” wrote Napoleon Hill as the title of the opening of the first chapter of his bestselling book ‘Think & Grow Rich’.

I’m pleased to live in a world where today there are many people and many movements focussed on ethical, world changing topics.

Permaculture is making a difference in a more sustainable world with respect for our planet.

We can surely do the same.

“We but mirror the world,” said Mahatma Gandhi.

So what are you thinking?

Love and Peace.
